Pics from last years picnic

Start your chili plans and get that garage queen cleaned up for the car show.  We’re back at the Almaden Country School. The club will provide beverages and lunch, please bring your favorite chili, yourself and a great Ford product to share with all, Shelby’s are always encouraged. There is no cost for this picnic, just come and enjoy friends and cars in a very private, safe spot.

The Almaden Country School is a private school that club member Richard Ravel is a board member of. Richard was able to arrange our use of the school grounds, as long as we keep things clean and neat after we're done. See map below for directions.

In years past we have been treated to the great chili of Don Lee, which The Man himself considered so respectable that he had Don make all of the chili for our SAAC 30 bus tour lunch break.  Don’s chili was truly awesome with a vast array of secret ingredients, which may be why we could only get a wry smile from him when we inquired about the bottle of Tequila next to his chili pots.  There was also the all natural chili from Larry Peden featuring chilis grown in Larry’s back yard.  Larry has stated on the record though that all meats came from the market, putting the rumors of squirrel contents to rest.  Since the event was held in California, no arrests were made for those who dared to use the dreaded legumes in their chili, which as Don Lee has told us is illegal in the Great Republic of Texas.

We encourage you to bring your favorite chili and participate in the "Chili Cook-Off" aspect of this event.  We had a bunch of great chilis last year and are looking forward to even more variety this year.  If you are unsure how to get started, pick up some "Carroll Shelby Chili Mix" at the local market (yes, it is a product of our Carroll Shelby).  You won't beat Don Lee's chili with it, but it is a fine starting point.  Then consult with some of the famous (or infamous?) chili chefs in the club: Don Lee, past-Prez Jerry Brown, Roger Andriesse of flightless bird chili fame, and many others.  We promise to keep the chili away from the cars, so there should not be any worries about chili fumes damaging paintwork.

Directions: from 85, take the Almaden Expressway exit, turn onto Almaden South. Go about 5 miles and turn left on Trinidad. The school is on the right about 1/2 mile down. Look for parking directors once you arrive, the picnic is actually within the school, not in the parking lot. Map.

We need an accurate headcount to order the food, so please RSVP no later than July 14.  You can sign up using the form below or call Walt 408-374-4258] with the following info:  number of adults attending; number of kids 12 years and under; year/model/color of club car you’re bringing.  We’ll try to park club cars  in orderly groups of similar cars so please arrive early if you are bringing your club car..  This is a great event to bring potential new members and friends to and how can you pass up a free lunch, with great chili no less?
