This is a heads –up on the club picnic and the Chili cook-off. It is time to reserve the date on your calendar, start your chili plans and start plans for cleaning up that garage queen for the car show. We’ll be back at the Almaden Country School, same as the past few years. The club provides beverages and lunch, you bring chili, yourself and a car for the show and VMOA joins us with desserts. Shelby’s are always encouraged for the car show, but all Ford products are welcome.
This year’s lunch will be chicken and tri-tip catered by Mangia with Friends, with all of the normal adders and salads of course. We loved their spread last year and have been fortunate to book them again for this year. The club will provide beverages and the Mongo gas powered blender is scheduled to appear to complete the event. We encourage you to bring some Chili this year and join the “Chili Cook Off” that we start the picnic with. These are generally mild mixes that stir the taste buds for the lunch that is soon to come and move people, sometimes quickly, to find the beverage area and check out the cold beer, margaritas, iced water and sodas. If you are unsure about how to get started on your Chile, take a look at the mixes at the local market as a starting point, or you could go authentic by using a variation on the recipe in next month’s article. We promise to keep the Chili away from the cars, so there should not be any worries about fumes from our “mild” Chili damaging your fragile paint work.
Scott Hirose and his crew will be on site to organize and place cars to maximize the show. The website will be up shortly for the event and we request that you please sign-up on-line so that we can give the caterer an accurate head count and Scott can get an idea of how many of each model and year he has to arrange for the car show.
Put the date on your calendar now, start planning your Chili and the car cleaning and watch for a basic Chili recipe and the map next month. And if you have a great Chili recipe that you’d like to share, send it to me and I’ll include it next month, or post it on our email list.Cole Reif cole.reif@nsc.com
Directions: from Hi Way 85, take the Almaden Expressway exit South, turn onto Almaden South. Go about 5 miles and turn left on Trinidad. The school is on the right about 1/2 mile down. Look for parking directors once you arrive, the picnic is actually within the school, not in the parking lot. Map.
We need an accurate headcount to order the food, so please RSVP no later than July 10. You can sign up on the web or call Scott Hirose with the following info: Number of adults attending; Number of kids 12 years & under; Year & Model of club car you’re bringing. We’ll try to park club cars in orderly groups of similar cars so please arrive early if you are bringing your club car. This is a great event to bring potential new members and friends to. How can you pass up a free lunch with great chili no less? For questions or changes to your lunch headcount, contact Scott Hirose day: 408-276-6607 or eve: 408-723-0630 or by email at shirose@mindspring.com.
