Saturday Driving School

This year we’ve expanded the Driving School to a full-day course. The morning will feature a car control clinic on a paddock autocross course with some one-on-one instruction and classroom chalk talks. After lunch students will drive Open Track sessions with instructors on the Thunderhill track. The objective is to teach the skills necessary to drive confidently in Open Track events. Enrollment is open to anyone with a valid driver’s license, including 16 and 17 year olds. Authorization of a parent or legal guardian is required for all minors. Nor Cal SAAC membership is not required, however priority will be given to current members if the Driving School is full.

Open Track

Experience the thrill of driving your high-performance car on the challenging 3.0-mile, 15-turn Thunderhill circuit. We provide an onsite ambulance, tow truck, and professional corner workers. Passing is permitted only in designated areas of the track, with more liberal rules for the experienced groups. Driver conduct is closely monitored by our track stewards to ensure an enjoyable time for everyone. Driving Instructors are available by request at no charge.

This event will be conducted under Nor Cal SAAC Open Track Rules and procedures. There will be three run groups of 20-40 cars each: Yellow (Novice), Red (Intermediate), and Green (Advanced). Drivers must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license. Passengers 18 years or older are allowed in some sessions.

Red and Green groups will have 2 full days of Open Track sessions since the Driving School will be conducted in the paddock Saturday morning. There will be no Yellow group in the Open Track until after lunch on Saturday.

HSR-West Vintage Races

HSR-West will be joining us with 2 or 3 vintage race groups. We have extended the track operating hours to squeeze in their qualifying sessions and races with minimal impact on our track time. HSR-West puts on a great show and helps us pay the bill too!

IMPORTANT! 103dB Sound Limit

Thunderhill Raceway Park has a published sound limit of 103dB.  Although they are not as strict as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, they will enforce this for cars that are obviously over the limit.  Please have adequate mufflers on your car.
