Open Track

Experience the thrill of driving your high-performance car on the challenging 3.0-mile, 15-turn Thunderhill circuit in, low-key environment.  We provide an on-site ambulance, tow truck, and full staff of USARM professional corner workers.  Passing is permitted only in designated areas of the track, with more liberal rules in the experienced groups.   Driver conduct is closely monitored by our track stewards to ensure an enjoyable time for everyone.  Driving Instructors are available by request at no charge.

This event will be conducted under normal Nor Cal SAAC Open Track Rules and procedures. There will be four run groups of 30-40 cars each: Yellow (Novice ), Red (Intermediate), Green (Advanced), and Blue (Expert).  Drivers must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license. Passengers 16 years or older are allowed in some sessions.  For more information on run groups, tech requirements or Nor Cal Shelby Club Open Track Rules, please refer to the Open_Track_Information_Central page.

IMPORTANT! 103dB Sound Limit

Thunderhill Raceway Park has a published sound limit of 103dB.  Although they are not as strict as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, they will enforce this for cars that are obviously over the limit.  Please have adequate mufflers on your car.

Driving School

The Driving School is a half-day introductory course which teaches fundamentals of Open Track driving. It is NOT a racing school. The objective is to teach the skills necessary to drive confidently in Open Track events. This will be accomplished by a series of driving exercises, demonstration laps with instructors and lots of lapping sessions behind the wheel of your own car.

We are offering a school-only half-day price for those wanting to get their feet wet at a low price. Half-day entrants will have the option of upgrading to the full-day or full-weekend by paying the fee difference at the track during the event.

Enrollment is open to anyone with a valid driver’s license, including 16 and 17 year olds. Authorization of a parent or legal guardian is required for all minors. Nor Cal SAAC membership is not required, however priority will be given to current members if the Driving School is full.
